A Team Culture Experience

Side by Side™ is a three-hour, full-team experience designed to help athletes strengthen connection, communication, accountability, and shared identity away from the pressure of practice and competition.

At Lumen Creek Studios, the team steps out of the gym and into the cabin for an experience built around conversation, creativity, reflection, and time together.

Using the candle-making process as a guide, athletes move through four phases:

Base Notes — What You Bring

Each athlete identifies the strengths, energy, and qualities they bring to the team and creates an individual candle inspired by that personal “base note.”

The Accord — What You Create Together

Just as fragrance notes blend to create something new, athletes explore what happens when different personalities, strengths, habits, and expectations come together. The team identifies the culture it wants to create and develops its own Team Signature™ fragrance through listening, collaboration, compromise, and consensus.

The Wick — What Keeps You Centered

The wick represents accountability. Athletes reflect on what knocks them off center, how they respond when the pressure rises, and what teammates should be able to count on from them when things get difficult.

The Cure — What Becomes Habit

A candle needs time to cure before it reaches its full potential. Team culture does too. Each athlete creates a SOAR commitment that is Specific, Observable, Actionable, and Repeatable, then takes home a candle carrying that commitment as a physical reminder of the standard they chose.

But Side by Side™ does not end when the candles are poured.

Teams also have time to break bread, play, laugh, and simply be together without drills, rotations, scores, or standings. That unstructured connection is part of the experience too.

By the end of the session, the team leaves with more than candles. They leave with shared language, shared expectations, individual commitments, and a Team Signature™ that represents who they are choosing to become together.

A Whole-Team Experience

Side by Side™ is intentionally designed for the entire team to participate together.

The conversations, language, Team Signature™, and accountability commitments only work when everyone has been part of the same experience. For that reason, full-team attendance is required. If an unavoidable absence occurs, we will work with the team to reschedule whenever possible.

The value comes from being in the room together.
